Telecare

Many different types of remote services, under as many different names, are offered to increase the safety and security of people in their home. All providers of these services can benefit from Medical Intelligence’s devices and services by offering their clients the freedom to go outdoors with a feeling of security. Medical Intelligence is also looking forward to benefit from their expertise in their fields.

Telecare is a service that enables people, especially older and vulnerable people, to live in their own home while maintaining their dignity and independence by the continuous, automatic and remote monitoring of real time emergencies and lifestyle changes over time; thus increasing peace of mind to family, friends and carers. Telecare is a service based on technology called Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) (also called a Medical Emergency Response System or Personal Alarm).

A PERS is a light-weight, battery-powered small radio transmitter's Panic Button (also called Help Button, Alarm Button, or Emergency Button). It sends a radio signal to a console connected to the user's telephone which sends the emergency alert through the phone lines to an Emergency Response Centre. Via a voice/listen connection with the central operator, it is possible to have a two way conversation. As a result of this, action can be taken as necessary.

Telemonitoring, like Telecare, is the remote surveillance of a patient’s behaviour in his/her home. It uses the consciously activated Panic Button and a wide range of electronic sensors that monitor the person’s well-being and/or environment, and that automatically trigger alerts at an Emergency Response Centre automatically to enhance safety or ensure problems are avoided.

Telecare, PERS, Personal Alarm and Telemonitoring are homebound services. They need a telephone link with an Emergency Response Centre to enable, through human contact, an organized and effective response should a problem arise. Medical Intelligence is dedicated to extend these great services outdoors.

Medical Intelligence devices are Mobile Alarms. Our mobile safety services offer the advantage to provide help outside one’s home, and at the right location, thanks to different types of positioning such as GSM, GPS or a combination of both, Assisted-GPS. Pinpointing the location of people who need help is crucial for the efficient co-ordination of assistance. Pressing the Emergency Button on our Vega or PERSmobile GSM/GPS devices will establish the virtual link to an Emergency Response Centre. Voice communication is also a possibility. In addition to the identification of the wearer, the location data is also communicated. With the help of a navigation map the Emergency Response Centre will know exactly where the person is located. Another application of generic Mobile Alarms is the tracking-and-tracing of goods, such as cars, boats or containers.

Telehealth uses information and communication technology to support independent living for vulnerable persons such as the Elderlies, chronically ill patients and people with disabilities; thus reducing costs and hospitalization time, and increasing their quality of life by keeping them home.

A series of daily measurements of the patient’s vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar level, weight, heart functions, etc. will be sent for clinical review, via phone lines or wireless technology. Telehealth devices in the patient’s own home can also detect changes in his/her medical condition and activate an alarm to an Emergency Response Centre, usually a hospital.

Telehealth seems to be like Telecare but, instead of monitoring environment changes in the patient’s life, it monitors health or physical changes. To encourage healthy activities, Telehealth users could benefit from going outdoors with the Telesecurity of Medical Intelligence’s Vega and PERSmobile.

‘Telemedicine is the practice of medical care using interactive audio visual and data communications. This includes the delivery of medical care, diagnosis, consultation and treatment, as well as health education and the transfer of medical data.’    -- World Health Organization --

Telesurveillance means remote monitoring of a site, such as a home or a building, by a specialized organization. Intrusions or intrusion attempts are detected. Following this detection by the surveillance centre, different services can be organized or the police, for instance, can be summoned.

Telesecurity has been defined twofold:

One definition implies a combination with Telesurvaillance. It involves, following a detection of intrusion or attempted intrusion, the organization of human intervention by specialized personnel on the site. That is one example of where and when Medical Intelligence’s Urgentys will be beneficial.

The other definition is when Telesecurity is used with another defining word such as Medical Telesecurity (Telehealth) or Human Telesecurity (Telecare) or even Mobile Telesecurity (Mobile alarms).
